Music video- Final production

digipak 4th draft (front cover)

After receiving audience feedback of our previous digipak front cover, we decided to change everything. This is because the feedback came back negative which meant it would not appeal to our target audience. Therefore, we changed the entire digipak and went along with our original idea as this would conform to the pop codes and conventions.

Digipak explaination- Sharmin

The draft shows what the front cover will look like however the background will be used throughout the digipak in order to have a continuous theme. It is important to have a continuous theme because it attracts the target audience and encourages them to consume the product.

A problem occurred which delayed the process of the digipak. Other schoolwork had earlier deadlines meaning that I had to prioritise the schoolwork before continuing with the digipak. I also could not access the software InDesign used to create the digipak as I was producing the digipak outside of school therefore the process of producing a completed version of the digipak is delayed.

Location shots (London)- Lauren

We went up to Central London so that we could do some extra filming. In particular we wanted to film more of Montel and Kamara's scene. Shooting in South Bank was ideal because of the beautiful scenery of the citywhich  linked well with the concept of  'world'. The location was good because the audience would be able to identify with the famous London landmarks.

Website Construction- Lauren

We constructed our product on a website called Wix. It was fairly easy to use which came in handy as we were not experienced and allowed us to use many aspects that would make our website appealing to our website. We designed a merchandise element in which we imputed a variety of images of 1 Nation. This was done so that our brand would have a lasting impact. There are jumpers in each band members favorite colour in order for the fans to be able to identify with them. Additionally, we are going to add social media on the home page so that our fans can connect with the boy band which will heighten their Pop Star effect.

Extra Shoot- Lauren

In today's filming shoot, we decided to take some more photos which captured the making of the music video. We filmed in Crystal Palace Park during the sunset as it allowed us to have a fascinating and clear  lighting which our other locations could not provide us with. It was good to film in Crystal Palace park because it was empty so this allowed the actors to feel comfortable and really get into their acting. These shots created a strong effect on the music video due to the naturalness brought on scene.

Response shooting day narrative- Lauren

In today's filming shoot we thought if would be a good idea if we shot the performance element to our music video. We filmed the 3 actors performing to the chorus of the song as well as individual parts for their verses. this was done so that we gathered up enough footage of the boys dancing. the boys performed better when they were together as a trio as they were not alone on stage. However, when one stage individually one group member found it hard to act natural in front of the camera, Therefore, we put on different background music so that he could loosen up and feel comfortable. this was essential as the actors needed to look confident. We focused on Simon Firth's 3 typologies theory in this shoot. Artificial lighting lighting was used for the performance element to help give off the  impression of a performance in a music video.

Editing Collected footage 1- Lauren

At this point we have started to upload the existing footage that we have onto the editing software Final-cut. This was done so that we could see what the footage looked like on the computer screen and if we needed to re-enact any particular scenes. Also, we wanted to start putting parts of the footage together to see how they worked with each other. One negative that we came a cross was that one scene of our footage was coming up in a yellow light which was not appealing and did not match the rest of the footage. We plan to see what we can do with this footage however it looks like we will be re-shooting this scene as it will stick to the codes and conventions better.

Shooting day- Kamara, Debo & Lauren

This was out first day filming in a different location (Croydon whitgift center). We focused on the scenes betwwen Kendall and I, as well as Iyaz and Kamara. We started off filming in the food court with kamara and Iyaz. they were sitting across from each other whilst iyaz sang to her. This reherasal day was productive as we got alot of filming done.

Updated Char profile-

As our group decided to film we all agreed after some consideration that our actors were much better suited for different roles instead and so we decided to switch them around to create a more natural boy band. Vaughn was originally going to play Kendall, he is now playing Logan. He best suits the role of Logan because he is committed performer at making the audience believe the relationship between him and the girl is genuine. Montel was originally going to play Logan, he is now playing IYAZ. Montel suits the role of IYAZ better because he good at rapping, moreover his dress style is more urban and we believe that this fits the IYAZ character better. Lastly, Fran who was originally going to play IYAZ. Fran is quieter therefore we agreed that he would best suit James in the music video.

Response to 1st rehearasal day (Meet up)

My group and I asked the actors if we could meet up in order to go throught the shooting script with them. This was so that they understood what we wanted them to do in terms of narrative and give them time to listen to the song choice and get a feel of the various things they would need to do. it was essential that this meeting took place as it would allow us to make better time of our other rehersal days.

Change in our "Updated shooting script" - Sharmin

Our "Updated shooting script" was an idea that we came up with during production. However there has been changes as the characters have changed. Kendall -- Francisco Logan -- Vaughn Iyaz -- Montel As the characters have swapped the location to London is unnecessary to use. So we have chosen the character Logan to have his verse in a classroom and singing to his love interest. While Francisco's character, Kendall, will have his verse in a house party and singing to the camera and the guests at the party.

Update 13th Jan- Lauren

Today we started to look through the pictures we had taken previously to see which ones would be suitable for both the digipak and website. We took a variety of images because our target audience is very visual ,therefore, they would want to see the boys in different settings, attire etc. The images wont go to waste as they will be used for the gallery page on the website so that fans can see more photos of them. As the boys have a drama exam coming up we will have to take more pictures soon. During this period we will work on editing the exiting images we have for the digipak and website.

We will take more pictures in the park as well as more in the studio but with different attire. This is so that our target audience can be provided with a variety of shots.

Music video inspiration- sharmin

The JLS music video inspired us because as a boy band, they had the element of performance which we could use in our music video. Simon Frith stated that music videos are characterised by three typologies. The performance typology is a common type where the group will singing while dancing. We liked the idea of having similar outfits to show the audience that they are in a group, making it easier for the target audience to recognise them. They are constructed by the industry to make out money from the audiences so it is important for audiences to recognise the boy band and sell the video.
